The Heart Behind McKenzie's Mission.

When I earned my degree in Social Work, I never imagined myself working with individuals with developmental disabilities. Now that I’m here, I can’t imagine working with any other population. I’m grateful to be part of McKenzie’s Mission, where I have the opportunity to show my children the importance of compassion and acceptance for everyone—no matter what. I love being with the residents; they can turn any bad mood upside down just with their greeting when I come through the door.

I am a proud mother of two beautiful daughters. One of them, McKenzie, has been diagnosed with Pervasive Developmental Disorder, Autism, and Speech Apraxia. In simple terms, this means she faces significant developmental challenges with no known medical cause, cure, or standard treatment.

McKenzie is a young adult who does not read, write, or color within the lines. Her speech is unintelligible, and she has difficulty understanding boundaries. She is vulnerable—but she is also beautifully and intentionally made in God’s image.

God prepared my heart to serve those who are often overlooked or underserved. Inspired by Matthew 25:40—“Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me”—I felt a calling to create a space where McKenzie and others like her could live in safety, dignity, and love.

What began as a deeply personal mission has grown into McKenzie’s Mission AFH Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. With the support of a dedicated volunteer Board of Directors, we are committed to providing a safe, faith-based, and nurturing home for vulnerable adults like McKenzie.
